Girls in Sports Week

I'm participating with a group of authors and bloggers this week at A Backwards Story to discuss girls in sports, a topic pretty close to my heart.  Should girls be allowed to compete with or against boys in predominantly male sports? Would you like your daughter to join the boys' football, hockey, baseball, golf, etc teams at your local high school? Inquiring minds.

To join the discussion, go here.  A Backwards Story also review Hooked which, of course, was pretty nice too.  The review can be found here

Have a great week!

I think girls in football would get hurt. Heck, most guys get hurt!

I was going to say it depends on the sport, but if they qualify for the team, why not?

On the average, boys and girls can be in the same team till 12 yo. Then as they become teens, the physical development of boys and girls are different. For instance, the best female soccer teams are at about the same level as the best 15 yo boys teams.

My kids are into freestyle skiing.
The boys are on a much higher level than the girls, from the youngest ages (10-11) to the adults. Courage is probably the main issue, since usually girls are as good as the boys when it comes to co-ordination and motoric skills.

A couple of my grandkids (brother and sister) play lacrosse. The boys gear up with heavy pads and helmets and hockey style gloves and they go all out. The girls wear eye and teeth guards only and the play is very restrictive. I would much rather play with the boys. Or would have in my younger days.

I'm with msmatch.... Why not, if they qualify and have the ability they should be able to compete in ANY sport!

Most sports have some degree of danger, but precautions can be made to make sure that all members are safe at play.

I'm supportive of having girls in sports like football. They should be allowed to join.
