Girl Power

Feel-good story of the week.  Last Friday in Pinckney, Michigan, Brianna Amat kicked a 31-yard winning field goal on her high school boy's varsity football team.  How cool is that?!

Amat was already a soccer star at Pinckney High. She told her soccer coach that she wanted to kick footballs as well. Head football coach Dan Burholder was impressed, so he put her on the team. Friday night was Brianna's biggest game against Grand Blanc, who was ranked No. 7 in the state.  Pinckney went on to beat Grand Blanc 9-7, thanks to Brianna.

As if written for a made-for-TV movie, Brianna then went on to be crowned Homecoming Queen.  Sweet, yes?

I love stories about girls who do amazing things, especially when it comes to sports.  And it's refreshing to read stories about teenagers who do good things for a change.  We always get too much of the bad, rarely any of the good.  Brianna is my hero this week.  Click here for the full scoop.

That's awesome. I like positive stories too, and there are so many. Too bad the news doesn't focus on those.

That's brilliant, and yes it does sound like the end of a YA novel :-)

How cool is that? Good for her (and for her coach for believing in her).

When my older boy is teasing his mother, he says that men in the kitchen and women behind the wheel are people in the wrong place >;)

This is a wonderful story. That young lady's tale would make a great after school special.

That's a cool story!
The movie Unnecessary Roughness featured a girl soccer player as the kicker on the football team.

It's relieving to hear a happy news story for once making the headlines on the news. I gotta say she has one great admissions essay in the making with that night.
