Geek Speak

Enlighten me, please, if you can.

Somebody recently tweeted me and said, "I +Ked you today."  I have no idea what +K-ing someone means.  Did someone knock me out in a virtual cage match or something?  Do I need to hire a bodyguard?

Also, what is the appeal of FourSquare and why should I care?  Am I missing out on something fun?

These are just little things that have been niggling at my mind this week.  I seriously need to get out more.

Okay, you got me on this one. I even had to Google +K after reading your plea, and I'm at a loss right along with you!

Hmmm... +Ked is a new one for me. Plucked? PlusKed? Maybe it was a typo.

Four Square is a social networking tool that let's people know where you are. Unless you get out (and want to be distracted by what other people are doing) you're not missing anything.

Well +K me, because I have no idea. It was hard enough for me to finally start the Twitter and the Facebooks.

+Ked seems like an endorsement for KEDS to me! But I'm so far behind in the technology world...
Maybe "liked"? It's the person's new creation? Weird.

Did you tweet back and ask? +k is even stumping me.

I shun Foursquare, it sounds like a great tool for stalkers. And I'm just not that in to shouting to the world, rob my house.

No clue. Does anyone remember when we communicated with real words? (Sigh)

Erm, I'm lost, too. I can usually figure them out on my own, or by googling, but that's a new one.

Maybe Google+'ed you?

I was going to say what Alex did! And maybe it was a typo?

I can't get into FourSquare. I've tried, but it's too much effort to keep on turning on my GPS. If I leave it on, my mobile phone bill is enormous!

Yikes. I need to get out more than you do. I wouldn't have a clue what to do if someone +Ked me. It sounds painful. :)

i'm taking a guess that +Ked means someone "liked" you on google+ (i call it schmoogle) so maybe they schmoogled you =)

and 4square is a blacktop game. i am plugging my ears to other definitions of it...nyah! hee hee

Jeez, I'm getting old. I have no idea what that is, but I love Scott's comment :-)

I come bearing knowledge! I saw the k+ on Twitter and quickly followed the link. It's Klout: http://klout.com/#/talliroland

Glad you got it figured out, Liz...

Is being Klouted a good thing?

Trisha said...

Dude.... there's Klout now? When will the web 2.0 shenanigans ever end?? :P

Wow, I'm out of the loop! I have never heard of Klout. Then again, I'm always the last person to find out these things.

Klout basically scores your social media for you. It rises everytime you tweet or do a status update on facebook or lowers if you haven't done that in a while. You can also link it to blogger, tumblr, linkedin, and various other places.

I have absolutely no idea either. Very strange as googling flags up a whole host of unmentionable suggestions!

We learn something new every week with this stuff, don't we? I had a suspicion, but was too chicken to stick my neck out with a guess. :)
