Dog Days of Summer

Today I'm participating in Michael Di Gesu's What I Did on My Summer Vacation Blogfest.  Too bad summer vacations no longer last three months like they were when we were kids.  *Sigh* I miss those days!

This year I traveled back to the Midwest and rented a beach house on Lake Michigan with my sister and her family.  My vacation was pretty simple.  It went something like this:

Donuts, beach, swim, read, swim, read, swim, walk along the beach, collect shells and rocks, cocktails, barbecue, read, crash.  Next day, repeat.  Perfection.

Looking forward to doing it again next year, although hopefully I won't return with the plague (which my husband and I lovingly nicknamed "Contagion") that I'm convinced that I picked up at the Chicago O'Hare airport on the trip home when a woman in the airport lounge coughed on my husband's neck.  True story.  For both of us, recovering from the Contagion has not been fun.  At all.

How'd you spend your summer?

Wow! Wish I had your summer vacation! That sounds like a dream compared to mine. But I have 2 weeks of vacay next month while the kids are in school and can't wait to relax by the pool. Oct. is my fave month in FLA so woohoo!

That sounds lovely! I didn't get a vacation this year, but I did manage to get out swimming which was nice.

That vacation sounds perfect. Well, except for the contagion, obviously!

Glad I didn't have the contagion! Hope you don't next year either.

I spent my summer vacation much the same way you did, but on the Connecticut shore. Perfection, absolutely. I wouldn't have it any other way.

This sounds like a fabulous vacation, except for the contagion part, of course. I've always wanted to spend time on Lake Michigan, the beach house sounds wonderful.

Have you seen Contagion yet? Did you know it was filmed in the area? The old Sherman Hospital in Elgin and I think some scenes in Naperville too. Oh, and lots of coughing.

Your vacation sounds perfectly wonderful! I'd love to rent a place on the lake one of these days.

Hope you and the hubster are keeping healthy in sunny AZ!

That sounds like my ideal summer/any holiday vacation.

I worked full time for the first time this summer. I didn't get to enjoy my last summer vacation because I didn't realize it would be my last.

That does sound perfect! I'll come back and visit this post when I'm 4 feet deep in snow!

Airports and airplanes are breeding grounds for germs and plagues. I won't tell you what happened to a friend of mine I will just say four words: Strep Throat, Staph Infection. Yup...bad! Your vacation sounded lovely though!

Ew! I wonder why people don't cover their mouths? I'm sorry about that. I love the beach picture! Are those your feet? ;)

Hi, Liz,

How lovely to spend time on the powdery sands of Lake Michigan.

Sounds like you had a blast. Sorry to hear about the Contagen... yuk... people can be so rude and STUPID.

Thanks for sharing and joining in on my blogfest.

Although I live in WI, I'm on the Minnesota side, so I haven't been to Lake Michigan in years. Glad you had a relaxing, donut-filled break!

Ooh, my husband just had the Contagion (we called it bubonic plague), NOT fun!

That sounds like a wonderful vacation! One I am very jealous of! We haven't had our summer yet, so none of us have had a summer vacation :)

Sounds like you had a great summer. While you were doing that, I was enjoying a mild winter here in Oz ;)
