Top Ten Countdown Music Blogfest

Okay, this blogfest had me at "music."  I had to join Alex Cavanaugh's cool blogfest today.  About the only time I'm not listening to music is when I sleep, which isn't often, by the way.  I write to music, I run to music, I drive to music.  It's always on in my house!  And I'm inspired by all kinds--rock, classical, country, folk, bluegrass, opera, anything.  That said, it was hard to choose just ten measly songs.  I tried to choose songs that defined a slice of my life, an event, a moment.  In no particular order, here are my Top 10--but, jeez, it was incredibly hard to choose just ten!

10.  Tapestry by Carole King.
9.    Close to You by The Carpenters (Ahem: Don't judge me. It was my very first album.)
8.    Saturday in the Park by Chicago
7.    Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty
6.    I Get Knocked Down by Chumbawamba
5.    S.O.S. by The Police
4.    Love Shack by the B52s
3.    I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers
2.    Teenage Wasteland by The Who
1.    Hip To My Heart by The Band Perry

Ooh lovely list! Great to see The Carpenters in there - if you try and sing along, you realise the fantastic range and breath control Karen had. Love the Gerry Rafferty too.

...I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more... Haha. Awesome list. You've got lots of great songs playing in my head, all at ONCE. Oy.

Cool list. I can never choose my top ten (don’t want my brain to explode), although after reading a few peoples lists, I rediscovered song I’ve forgotten.

You went old school! Shame Rafferty died recently. Way too young. Thanks for participating!

What a great list! This is the first Chicago song I've seen today. They would have a couple on my top 100, that's for sure.
Also, Baker Street could easily been in my top 10.

But I get up again ... have several of the songs on your list.

Judge you? For The Carpenters' "Close To You"?

Sure, I'm gonna judge you. I give you an "A".

It wouldn't have been my own Carpenters' song of choice (so many to choose from, and I'll go with "We've Only Just Begun"), but you score points for ANY Carpenters song!

Anybody who would say an unkind thing about you for The Carpenters inclusion knows diddly about music. It only happens that Richard Carpenter INVENTED the "Power Ballad" format!

Let 'em stick THAT in their guns and roses and smoke it!

Love love love #3 and #6! Great choices! I was at a football game and a ref got knocked down. The music guy had "I Get Knocked Down" on before he could get to his feet. It was hilarious!

Hooray for your list! The Carpenters are heroes of hit songs and "Close to You" is among there best. If I had been forced into choosing a #1 it might have been "Baker Street"--it was on my list as well.

I love that proclaimers song! There are a few there I don't recognise; I'll have to find them on youtube and hopefully they'll become new favourites! Thanks Liz.

"Love Shack" missed my list by, like, a beat.

Oh! Baker Street is a great song! And I like Saturday in the Park too. And The Who, of course [g]

Liz. I laughed when I read that the blogfest "had me at music". I felt that way, too. I spent way too much time putting it together, but it has been great fun. Tapestry is one of those classic albums that no collection can be without. Love the Chicago shout-out. RIP Gerry Rafferty. I loved both "Love Shack" and "Roam" off that cd.
Great list; great to meet you,
-James
