The Top 10 Reasons to Love Halloween

Halloween is here already?! That must be why I'm hearing Christmas music in the mall.  Without further ado, à la David Letterman style, here are my Top 10 Reasons to love Halloween:

10. There's always at least one mom on the block who thinks that kids really like those mini-boxes of raisins.

9.  Adults have a reason to dress up as superheroes. And politicians.

8.  Pumpkin spice lattes.

7.  You get to hear kids say thank-you all evening.

6.  Mini-chocolate Twix and Snickers.  And Miky Ways.

5.  Candy corn.

4.  Finally. A meaningful reason to discuss vampires and werewolves.

3.  Horror movie marathons on SyFy.

2.  Fifty-five shopping days till Christmas.

1.  It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.  It never gets old.

Feel free to add a few of your own.  Happy Halloween, all!

My favorite is ghost stories...even though they freak me out. LOL Great list!

I cracked up at #7 -- hearing kids say thank you all evening.

Halloween has always been my favorite. My birthday is a couple days afterwards, so that may have something to do with it! LOL Candy, and then presents. It's a win-win!

Ha ha are u feeling better? If I were in america I would be that mum shoving raisins down their throats. Kids need to eat healthy and all that candy? crikey!

I love the pumpkin!! Definitely number one and dressing up in costumes is so much fun!! Happy Halloween!!

Hi Summer - Me, too! Love ghost stories--so much better than even watching ghost movies!

Donna - Happy Birthday to Be! So, as you're coming down from your candy high, you can spin right up again on a chocolate cake high?! Sounds wonderful.

Oh, Joanna...not RAISINS!! Kids will just whip those onto your front lawn! Speaking from experience... Regarding my cold, I'm still on heavy doses of hot tea, honey, and lemon.

Hi Talei! I guy on his way to work today walked down the sidewalk in a vampire cape and carrying a briefcase. It was hilarious!

I must admit, I was one of those raisin moms... my kids were so embarrased...since their friends would tease. They still throw it up to me, many decades later. I used to give them dental floss with their Christmas presents. That did not go over very well either.

That's what I live for...horror fest on all the cable channels, as well as the standby, CHarlie Brown.

Hi Susan! Oh, no...Of course, I've only heard that kids throw the raisin boxes back on the lawns of the houses that distribute them. I don't know from personal trick-or-treating experience. No, not me. ;-) At least the dental floss was useful!

Hi Dru! - Yep, I fully plan to watch all the oldies but goodies--black and white Bela Lugosi and vamp flicks. I can do without the more recent ones like that horrid SAW movie. Give me the old movies anytime! And some campy Bruce Campbell like ARMY OF DARKNESS.

MMM...Yay for Pumpkin Spice lattes!!! I love this season (but NOT the Christmas music already...)

#2 isn't a reason to love it if you haven't yet begun to shop for Christmas!

I love seeing the baby trick or treaters. They are so adorable.

Hi Candyland - I'm so with you. While I love Christmas music, I most certainly do not love it in October.

Hi Alex - In all honesty, my Christmas shopping starts the day before Christmas. Too much time?

Hi Maria - The kidlets are certainly the highlight of the season. Oh, to be a kid again...
