Resistance Is Futile

I went to the mall yesterday with the specific task of buying an $8 replacement chord for my sunglasses.  I left with a new pair of Maui Jim sunglasses that cost a lot more than $8.  Total. Splurge.

And resistance was futile.

I'd been looking for a certain pair of wire rim Maui Jim's all summer,  but I never could find the right color, the right shape.  The sunglasses I'd seen the past couple of months all reminded me of traffic cop sunglasses--you know, the kind that cops wear so you have to stare back at your own reflection when they pull you over for speeding?

My cool new sunglasses! With groovy case!
But this week I found THE PAIR.  They're so 1970's retro-y and fun.  And for the price I paid, I better stay in love with them for a very long time.

Anyone else splurge on something this week? This month?  Bigger question:  Does splurging make you feel good or guilty and did you nosh on one of those hot, buttery mall pretzels after you were done shopping?

Cool glasses! Nope, no splurging here. I wish!

Hi Lisa!

The weekend is just starting. Maybe tomorrow? ;-)

Ooh, the glasses sound FAB! Funny you mention the mall pretzel. Back in Canada, I loved them! Last month I was shopping in one of the first malls to open in London (we don't really do malls here) and they had those pretzels! I hoovered down TWO!

Hi Talli!

I chowed down on one and brought one home for later! I'm drawn to that buttery, salt smell like a bee to honey!

Hi Joanna!

Now that I've got my new pair, I'm super careful with them, almost to the point of paranoid. Not sure if that's good or bad. Oh, cinnamon sugar?! You're talking my language!

Sweet shades! Enjoy!! A splurge here and there supports the inner artist in us. ;)

When the prefect item is staring you in the face... well, sometimes you just have to do it!

Hi JW!

Thanks! I don't often splurge but when I do, I tend to go a little overboard. I could have found them cheaper online, someplace else, yada yada yada, but when I saw them, I knew I had to have them! Right then and there! It's a sickness.

Hi Colette!

Yep! So true!!

I'm not an impulse buyer, but when I see something I want and know it won't be there when I go back, yes, I'll splurge and not feel guilty about it at all.

The only thing I splurge on recently was books.

Hi Dru!

I continually splurge on books, although buying more e-books (and ultilizing my library's digital library) has definitely made less of a dent in my wallet. I can't go a week without a new book!

I have been buying books like a mad person.

Don't have time to read any of them.

But I'm buying them just the same.

Doesn't seem like much in the way of a splurge...until the credit card people start adding them all up.

And then...yikes.

Hi Taryn!

Right there with you! The digital library at my local public library has helped tremendously, though. But when there's a new release out that I must have and must read, like, RIGHT NOW, it gets downloaded to my nook. Stat!

I don't splurge very often. It's that Catholic school upbringing. LOL. Guilt was part of our curriculum.

Does buying a new shirt on sale for $3.20 count? I'm SO not a shopper ... and when I do splurge, it's usually for my daughter or my husband (or my dog!) and not me. LOL...

Okay, I think I'm making pretzels today. Mmmmm...

Maria,

Oh, we have so much in common, girlfriend! :-)

Hi Marianne!

I should mention that the day that I bought my sunglasses, I also bought a pair of jeans for $7.50 that were originally $85. That is not a splurge; that is a steal! Especially because I needed them.

Not much splurging lately, but I am contemplating getting season 3 of Mad Men on iTunes. We eat out a lot and I suppose that could be considered splurging too. Last weekend we went to a fancy new Indian restaurant in our neighbourhood. It was nice, but very rich and spicy! - G
